MHS BASEBALL TEAM GETS TWIN TIDEWATER WINS

The Middlesex High School (MHS) varsity baseball team (4-5, 2-0) had two Tidewater District wins last week, defeating the Charles City Panthers, 18-0, and West Point Pointers, 18-1.

The Chargers beat the Pointers behind strong pitching on the mound by Henry Fleet, who held West Point to just one run, two hits, two walks and allowed only one run.

Jakub Bowen, Luke McMurtrie and Nolan Rutkowski paced the Chargers on offense with two hits each. Bowen knocked in three runs, Nolan Rutkowski, two RBIs and McMurtrie, one RBI.

Others to get a hit in the game were Shane Glenn, Bryson Bulgin, Thomas Foster, Clayton Powell, Payton Calhoun and Robbie Brown. Glenn had three RBIs, Bulgin, two RBIs, Calhoun, two RBIs, and Brown had an RBI. Nathan Rutkowski and Henry Fleet reached base three times each on walks. Fleet also had an RBI.

Against Charles City, the Panthers could not get the ball across the plate as 12 MHS batters reached first on walks. Nathan Rutkowski and Foster held the Panthers to just three hits and no runs.

Middlesex was paced on offense by Bulgin, who had two hits and two RBIs. Glenn had one hit, two RBIs; Bowen, one RBI; McMurtrie, one hit, two RBIs; Nolan Rutkowski, one hit, two RBIs; Powell, one hit; Fleet, one hit, two RBIs; Calhoun, one hit, one RBI; Powell, one hit, one RBI; Jacob Powell, one hit, one RBI; and Foster, one RBI.
