The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system continues its year-long gardening series, hosted by reps from the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service (VCES).
“Garden Weeds — What is It and How to Get Rid of It?”
- 5 p.m. Monday, April 21, at MCPL’s Deltaville branch.
- Refreshments and a Q&A session follow the main presentation.
This program will cover how to better identify weeds, figure out whether they are annuals, biennials, or perennials, and discern the best method to then control them. It will also explore the concept of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), in which a variety of solutions are applied, how to draw up an IPM plan, and how having one benefits your garden. The talk addresses how to limit chemical use in home gardens as well.
The presentation will be hosted by Frank Long, the extension service’s agricultural and natural resources agent for the Middle Peninsula. The following program in the series will be “Creating Your Own Plant Super Food,” addressing composting and organic matter additions will be offered at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at MCPL’s Urbanna branch.
