Decade-long debate continues

Urbanna-owned strip at end of Virginia Street yields yet another proposal: site for plantings

A proposal for the end of Virginia Street in Urbanna could provide funding for plantings on the town’s 30-foot-wide strip of land. At its April 10 meeting, Taylor Ovide, coastal resilience planner with the Middle Peninsula Planning District Commission (MPPDC) told the Urbanna Town Council there may be grant funding to design and install plants for the town-owned strip of land on Urbanna Creek. The town had received a $13,000 estimate from a private company.

Multiple Urbanna town councils have debated what to do with the land for about 10 years. Proposed uses included a dock, a kayak launch site, a fishing pier, a dinghy dock, a park, among other things.

The Urbanna Town Marina is located about 75 yards to the north. The land adjoins The Residences at Oyster Harbor at right, and a private marina at left.
