
Cornell was born Aug. 31, 1952, in Stormont and was the son of Lena and the late Jack Kimble. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Kimble; and brother Larry Kimble.
Cornell was educated in Middlesex County public schools and was a member of Middlesex High School Class of 1972. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from Sears, Roebuck & Company Auto Center after 38 years of service as a mechanic.
Cornell was the quietest of his siblings, but his presence spoke volumes. He touched countless lives through his unwavering dedication to serving others in his community. A devoted father and grandfather, Cornell lived a life of purpose and hard work. Whether he was always working on a car, mowing lawns, or chopping wood, he poured his heart into everything he did. He was known for his kind spirit and generous nature, always ready to lend a helping hand without hesitation.
Cornell leaves to cherish his memory daughters, Wykena and Kimberly Cooke of Urbanna; mother, Lena Kimble of Saluda; granddaughter, Layla Cooke; grandsons, David Miles and Jayden Jackson; brothers, Toney (Charlene) Kimble of Richmond, Tyrone (Tammie) Kimble of Topping, Anthony (Sarah) Kimble of Urbanna; sisters, Lucy (Percell Sr.) Scott, Joan (Curtis) Strickland, Beverlyn Bagby, and Michelle Kimble, all of Saluda; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
A wake is planned for Friday, April 11 from 5-7 p.m. at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home in Shacklefords. Homegoing service is set for Saturday, April 12 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3971 General Puller Hwy., Saluda. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. and the service will begin at 11 a.m.
