
Middlesex County received some good news last week as County Administrator Matt Walker informed the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) on Tuesday, April 8, that Seaward Marine, the firm that was hired by the county to dredge Broad Creek, reported there is more room for dredge materials than anticipated in the county’s spoil site.
Walker explained to the board that the spoil site will hold another 12,000 to 14,000 cubic yards of dredge materials, which will allow Seaward Marine to dredge the Broad Creek channel down to the desired 10 feet. The permit calls for an eight-foot dredge depth because of anticipated limited space inside the spoil site, he said.
“This is really going to make the Broad Creek stakeholders happy,” said Walker. “They have been concerned that the eight-foot depth would not be enough to keep the channel open as long as hoped.”
The county is paying Seaward Marine $52 a cubic yard for the work. The estimated cost of the dredge was $1,471,600. The additional dredging will cost another $700,000…
