Middlesex High School (MHS) Head Tennis Coach Matthew Short recently released the 2024-2025 team rosters for both the MHS girls squad and the new MHS boys squad. MHS has not fielded a boys tennis squad previously, at least not in recent memory. “We now also have a practice team that is made up of beginner high school tennis players and eighth grade tennis players,” Coach Short told the Sentinel.

The girls team includes:

  • No. 1 singles — Meeha Ferris (fourth year on the team)
  • No. 2 singles — Zikirah Morris (third year on the team)
  • No. 3 singles — Julia Dise (first year tennis player)
  • No. 4 singles — Alyssa Moore (first year tennis player)
  • No. 5 singles — Allison Mendoza (first year tennis player)
  • No. 6 singles — Jasiah Fuller (first year tennis player)
  • No. 7 singles — Emily Cox (first year tennis player)

The boys team includes:

  • No. 1 singles — Aiden Eanes (experienced tennis player)
  • No. 2 singles — Nathaniel Williams (first year tennis player)
  • No. 3 singles — Joseph Rowe (first year tennis player)

Only three boys tried out for the team; only one other 1A team in the Tidewater District offers boys tennis, so finding opponents will be challenging.

The coaches and volunteers include:

  • Head Coach Matthew Short
  • Assistant Coach Timothy Balderson
  • Volunteer Maddison Green, a former MHS player who was the state runner up in class 1 singles.
  • Volunteer David Armentrout

The Middlesex tennis girls fell, 9-0, to Mathews in March 26 away action.
