MC supervisors propose $36.3 million budget

FY 2025-2026 budget reflects no property or personal property tax increase

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) voted last week to advertise for public hearing on a proposed $36,392,418 fiscal year (FY) 2025-2026 budget that reflects no property or personal property tax increases. The tax rate will remain at $.61 on real estate and mobile home values and $2.60 on personal property.

The budget reflects a 3% raise for all county and school employees. It also reflects a 1.5% one-time bonus for all county employees paid out on June 16. The state is funding the 1.5% bonus only for state compensation board funded salaries paid out to employees by the state. Supervisors agreed to give a $750 one-time bonus to all other county employees ineligible to receive the bonus from the state. This will cost county taxpayers $52,000.

The Virginia General Assembly also approved a one-time $1,000 bonus for teachers and other Standard of Quality (SOQ) funded school staff. The Middlesex County School Board (MCSB) has not met to make a decision on the bonus.
