The 2024-2025 Middle-sex High School (MHS) varsity Charger baseball team opened season play this week with three key returning seniors. The Chargers, however, are facing an uphill battle, having lost six seniors to graduation.

All-state player Hudson McMinn, Garrison Robins, Jackson Murray, Chris Withers, Jonathan Oliver and Sammy Fleet all graduated, leaving some holes in the Chargers lineup.

Seniors this year on the team are Shane Glenn, shortstop/outfielder/pitcher; Lucas (Luke) McMurtrie, catcher; and Zach Deagle, outfielder. McMurtrie, Glenn and Deagle are strong players that a team can be built around, said MHS baseball coach John Robins.

Other key returning players from last year are, junior, Nolan Rutkowski, designated hitter; sophomore, Jakub Bowen, third base/pitcher; and sophomore, Henry Fleet, third base/pitcher.

The Chargers have played two games so far this season as MHS lost to Northumberland, 12-0, on Tuesday, March 18.

Against Lancaster on Friday, March 21, the Red Devils beat the Chargers, 8-5, scoring four runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth.
