If you are looking for a crab or peeler pot or two or 50 pots to go commercial fishing, Rappahannock Supply in Church View has pots and much more.

The business was recently purchased by Jessica M. Callis from longtime owner Paul Foster. Callis is the granddaughter of the late renowned Mathews County fisherman Walter Coles Burroughs. Callis’ great-grandfather had the 55-foot buyboat Peggy, which was built in 1924 for pound net fishing.

The vessel is still alive today and is owned by the Mathews Maritime Foundation (MMM) and they will be celebrating the boat’s 100th birthday this year. “I have a long heritage in commercial fishing,” said Callis at the store last week with her dog Ginger at her side. “It has been a part of my life — all of my life. When the opportunity came to buy this business, I felt it would be a good fit for me.”

“We sell a lot of crab pots and wire to customers from as far away as New York up north and Florida to the south.”

“We are not just about commercial fishing,” said Callis. “We plan to have things on the shelves that when the husband brings his wife there is something on the shelves for her to buy too.”
