Free basketball clinic for middle school boys

Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the region and longtime coach Scott Barker of White Stone hopes to provide opportunities for players to “step up to another level of play” as he has founded the Rivah Basketball Association.

Barker has been coaching since 1985 and understands that basketball is a sport that helps young people grow, learn to work together as a team, develop athletic skills and good health habits.

Barker was a high school basketball star who was a walk on at the University of Delaware only to be cut. “I have never stopped playing the game and it’s the kind of game once you fall in love with it — you always love it.”

RBA was established in 2023 to provide players in the area with the opportunity to receive high level coaching instruction and workouts with other talented players and compete as teams in local and regional tournaments.

For over 40 years, Barker has coached on every level of the sport including over the decades as a high school head coach, a college assistant coach and a head coach of a minor league professional team.

Rivah Basketball Association is offering a free basketball clinic for middle school boys on Saturday, March 15, from 10 a.m. to noon at Christchurch School in Yarborough Gymnasium. There is no charge to attend.
