The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger varsity basketball team’s 2024-2025 season ended Wednesday, Feb. 26, as the Lancaster Red Devils crushed the Chargers, 67-54, in the semi-finals of the Region A tournament in the John S. Clements Memorial Gymnasium at MHS.

The Red Devils came out scrapping on defense, causing eight Charger turnovers in the first quarter and directing the offense and defense flow of the contest throughout the rest of the game.

Middlesex had but one moment of hope when in the fourth quarter the Chargers outscored the Red Devils, 21-14, and at one point brought the score to within 9 points. The Lancaster coach, however, called a timeout and the Red Devils slowed the game down, scored 2 points on the next offensive possession and never looked back.

Other than that moment, the Chargers were never in the game as the Red Devil defense just controlled the tempo for most of the game. Jamarcus Russell led the Red Devils offensively with 26 points and Antonio Tomlin added 12 points for Lancaster.

The Chargers were paced offensively by JaQuan Griffin who scored 21 points; Nielson McMinn, 10; Henry Fleet, 9; Davonte Griffin, 8 and Shane Glenn and Nathan Powell contributed 3 points each.
