At work session on Feb. 18, supervisors authorized County Administrator Matt Walker to explore a biennium (every two year) budget process.
Walker informed the board that the State of Virginia uses a biennium budget period that gives them one year spending a great deal of time on the budget and a shorter session the next year to amend the budget.
“It would force staff to do more long-term planning which might be a good thing,” said Walker.
Supervisors Chairman Don Harris asked Walker to find out if other counties in the state have gone to biennium budgeting and, if so, how it is working in other areas of the state. Don Harris, who is also the supervisor representing the Saluda District, also questioned what was the cost involved…
