Middlesex County has been awarded a $2.3 million grant to dredge Broad Creek in Deltaville.

County Administrator Matt Walker announced at the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors Feb. 4 regular monthly meeting that Virginia Port Authority has awarded a $2.3 million grant to the county for “emergency” dredging of Broad Creek.

Although there are still some permitting issues, Walker says he hopes the four month long dredge project can get started in the next 30 days. The board voted to authorize Walker to sign any addendums required to proceed immediately with the dredge project.

Walker thanked the county staff, particularly Planning and Zoning Director David Kretz and Mark Mansfield of the Middle Peninsula Regional Planning District Commission for helping move the project forward.
