The Middlesex County Public Library (MCPL) system requested $170,000 funding in the upcoming budget from the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors (MCBS) on Friday, Jan. 24. This is an increase of $25,000 from the current budget year. The county has contributed $145,000 to the library in each of the past two fiscal years.
MCPL consists of library branches in Urbanna and Deltaville. It also has a bookmobile “outreach” library that travels across the county circulating books and materials.
Executive Director Carrie Dos Santos noted that MCPL wants to provide better physical service areas at its two libraries for teens and adult patrons. “We want to have a comfortable space suited to the needs of teens within the library…” said Dos Santos.
“We also want adults to have a more comfortable accessible, tech-enabled meeting space within the library,” she said. “Adults will take advantage of programs that are both practical and enriching and foster lifelong learning.”
