Last week’s story in the Sentinel about a Jan. 23 fire that destroyed the boat that Rusty Chrisley and his 13-year-old Pomeranian-mix dog Star were living on resulted in an outpouring of generosity, said Ron Hynes, who set up a GoFundMe account for them. “The kindness and generosity of those that have heard of this tragedy has been extraordinary,” said Hynes. “The article in the Southside Sentinel produced the largest donation to date.”

One donor asked for Rusty’s clothes size and bought him some clothes.
“While Rusty’s world is certainly not going to get back to normal soon, he is very encouraged by the kindness and support of his friends,” said Hynes. “He thanks all for their generosity and support.”
Rusty, a 72-year-old Navy veteran, had no insurance and lost just about everything. He was able to cut a hole in the boat hull to search for and find some of his tools.
