Chargers to take on K&Q, ‘Rapp’ and Mathews

The Middlesex High School (MHS) basketball team (8-5, 5-1) defeated Tidewater District foe King William (KW), 63-41, on Thursday, Jan. 16, and lost, 59-47, to Westmoreland High School on Fri., Jan. 17.
The Chargers came out slow in the game against King William as the Cavaliers led all of the first quarter and ended the period, 17-15, in KW’s favor. MHS rallied in the second quarter and led, 29-26, at halftime. MHS stars JaQuan Griffin and Nielson McMinn took over the second half. J. Griffin scored 14 of his 26 points in the second half and McMinn scored 12 of his 14 in that half.
Middlesex is currently in the number two spot in the Tidewater District boys basketball standings, according to MaxPreps.com.
The Chargers will play King & Queen Central tonight, Thursday, Jan. 23, at home. The game will start at 7 p.m. MHS will play Rappahannock of Warsaw on Jan. 27 and Mathews on Jan. 28. Both games are at home and have 7 p.m. tip-offs.
