It is with much sorrow that the family wishes to announce that Robert “Bob” Duncan Bowers, 72, of Chesterfield County, passed away suddenly on Monday, Jan. 13, 2025.
Bob grew up in Richmond, where he graduated from Henrico High School. He went on to attend Randolph-Macon, where he was a member of Theta Chi and graduated in 1974.
He retired from Chesterfield County Health Department, where he worked as an environmental scientist. After retirement, not quite ready to settle down, he worked for Townes Site Engineering.
Bob was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family to fish and hunt. His favorite places to fish were the Chesapeake Bay and the Outer Banks. His second love in life, because family was first, was his family cottage in Deltaville. He would spend weekends on Stingray Point by the waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Russel Vernon and Jeanne Matthews Bowers; brother, Daniel R. Bowers; nephew, Matthew Watson; sons-in-law, Andrew T. Fens and Jason D. Ware; father-in law, John D. Henderson; and granddaughter, Morgan L. Ware.
He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Malinda Henderson Bowers; daughters, Kimberly Skrzycki (Jeffrey), Jennifer Desai (Samir), Candice Fens, and Krystal Ware; grandchildren, Lauren, Jackson, Emilia, Brody, Brennan, Lanie, Ava, Emma, Chloe, Harper, Mila, and Nichole; brother, Dr. John M. Bowers; sisters, Pamela W. Atkinson (Steve) and Martha Bowers; sister-in-law, Betty J. Bowers; mother-in-law, Linda T. Henderson; brother-in-law, Rocky Henderson (Janice); as well as, many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home-Chester Chapel, 3050 West Hundred Road, Chester, on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a memorial service taking place on Friday, Jan. 24, at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Robert D. Bowers name to The Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
