YOUTH TACKLE FOOTBALL RETURNS TO MIDDLESEX

Lack of youth flag football opponents prompts shift to tackle football

The end of the Middlesex Colts Youth Tackle Football and Cheering was a great loss to the children in Middlesex County. As the years have passed, the children’s desire to play football before high school required families to travel to neighboring counties of Gloucester and Lancaster in order to give Middlesex youth the opportunity to play football. Therefore, most families, unable to commit to the travel requirements, were forced to drop football as an option for their children.

In summer 2024, Middlesex Colts Coach David Seay revamped the flag football program in Middlesex, which was a huge success. Unfortunately, with few leagues around the state offering flag football for children ages 8 and older, there would be little to no opportunity for the youth in Middlesex to play.

“We knew the kids and parents wanted more and they weren’t satisfied with just ending the season and calling it an experience. We decided to take a survey of our team’s parents and players. The overall majority vote of those surveyed was tackle football for 2025!”

The age divisions include:

  • 6U — Flag Only and Cheer.
  • 8U — Tackle and Cheer.
  • 10U — Tackle and Cheer.
  • 12U — Tackle and Cheer.
  • 14U — Tackle  and Cheer.
