Christchurch School Director of Athletics and Co-Curriculars John Dehm announced recently that Blake Berry (’25) was named Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II 2024 Soccer Player of the Year.
Berry was co-captain of the Christcurch School (CCS) soccer team that won the VISAA Division II state soccer championship this fall.
Berry is the son of Jonathan and Lauren Berry of St. Stephens Church. He is a Navigator (what CCS admission hospitality team members are called), a prefect, and a member of the National Honor Society. Berry is on the school’s varsity boys basketball team, and is an honor roll student.

- Antony Dentener of Cape Town, South Africa, was named to the VISAA Division II All State First Team, and Rafa Garza Gomez was named to the Second Team.
- CCS Head Coach Matt Schaefer was named VISAA Division II 2024 Coach-of-the-Year. Schaefer is in his 22nd year at the school, where he is also Head Coach of the girls soccer team. Schaefer teaches in the school’s math department.
- Christchurch also won the Division II boys state championship in 2022 when Berry was a sophomore.
