bonfire
A bonfire roars last year in the Christ Church field of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal), which annually observes the Epiphany by lighting a giant bonfire near Christ Church’s garden off General Puller Highway in Middlesex County. This year, the event is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9. The entire community is invited. It was originally set for Monday, but was canceled due to the snow. (Contributed)

Christ Church Parish (Episcopal) will celebrate Epiphany, a feast day, with its annual roaring bonfire on the open field in front of the church on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m. The church is located at 26 Christ Church Lane in Christchurch.

The traditional Epiphany feast day concludes the Christmas holiday and commemorates the arrival of the Magi (Three Kings) at the manger and the revelation of the birth of Christ.

The bonfire consists of dried Christmas greenery and Christmas trees. “If you have greenery and trees you wish to contribute, you may drop them off in the open field across from the church,” said Mary Lynn Landgraf.

The event is open to the entire community.
