The 2024-2025 Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger basketball team boasts a strong group of players coming back from last year’s squad, which advanced to the semi-finals of the Class 1 state basketball tournament.
The Chargers ended last year’s impressive hoops season with a 19-6 win-loss record and advanced to the state semi-finals only to lose, 63-53, to eventual state champion Lancaster High School.
The Chargers have three seniors returning. Career 1,000-point player JaQuan Griffin has returned along with two strong 3-point shooters, Nathan Powell and Shane Glenn. J. Griffin hit the 1,000 point career mark in the game against Carver College and Career Academy on Dec. 17.
The Chargers have picked up 6’6” center Nielsen McMinn, who has so far dominated the paint this year for MHS. McMinn is a senior and this is his first year on the varsity squad. He has quick rebound hands and strong hand/eye coordination above the rim and is a strong addition to the Charger squad.
The Chargers also have junior Davonte Griffin and sophomore Henry Fleet returning. Griffin, at 6’1,” plays forward and guard as he has the guard skills to bring the ball up the court and the jumping skills and height for the forward position. Fleet, at 6’1,” is a scrappy player who has a presence inside and outside of the paint.
Others on the 2024-2025 varsity squad include Bryson Bulgin, Donovan Jones, Dylan Janisko, Carter Hurd, Dereon Cooke and Jacob Nowell, all of whom have seen playing time this season.
