There is a bright spot following a fire that consumed a mobile home on the late night of   Saturday, Dec. 7, on Remlik Road in Remlik, two miles west of Urbanna.

Tim Daughtrey heard the residents lost almost everything they owned in the fire. And he stepped up to help them.

Daughtrey, owner of 3D’s Construction in Saluda, had planned to sell a rental trailer he owned, but he decided to give it to those who were displaced by the fire.

“I was going to sell it, but they needed it more than I needed the money,” he said this week. “She needed it more than me.”

Daughtrey said he and his son, BJ Daughtrey, moved the trailer to the property, and the residents will get someone to hook it up. “It was in tip-top shape, had a new roof and central heat. She was very, very thankful for it,” said Tim Daughtrey.

Tim Daughtrey has owned 3D’s Construction for 19 years and is a Class A contractor. BJ Daughtrey, 28, of Water View, also is a Class A contractor and owns 3D Power Washing and East Coast Construction.

Tim Daughtrey’s company motto is “No Job too small.” For him, moving a house trailer is a small job, but has big help to those burned out of their home. “We’re all about helping people. When we see somebody in need we try to help them… we need a lot more of that in these times.”

Tim Daughtrey had heard about the fire from his son BJ, who is a member of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department (MVFD), located in Urbanna. The blaze also brought out firefighters from the Upper Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department of Water View; and the Hartfield Volunteer Fire Department.

Stephen Pugh, chief of MVFD, said seeing the Daughtreys help the residents out of a bad situation was gratifying. “It shows there is some humanity left in the world.”
