The Urbanna Business Association (UBA) honored the late George Throckmorton Friday, Dec. 13, for his founding of the very popular town Christmas “Polar Express”-themed event.

“The Polar Express” is an adventure Christmas film to the North Pole that was released in 2004. Urbanna’s Polar Express is just part of that magical adventure that promotes the Christmas spirit in the community.

At the start of the first Polar Express run on Friday, UBA member Suzanne White presented George’s wife Carol Throckmorton with a plaque at the Urbanna Town Hall building.

“Tonight, we gather to celebrate not just the season, but also the spirit of wonder and community that binds us together,” said White.

“At the heart of this celebration is George Throckmorton, whose vision and dedication have brought the magic of the Polar Express to Urbanna.”

“His original effort has transformed this town into a place where imaginations run wild and the glow of possibilities warms hearts,” she said. “He has reminded us all, young and old alike, that believing is the first step toward experiencing something extraordinary.”

“On behalf of everyone here, we want to honor his memory, creativity and generosity,” she said. “George has given us more than just an event. He has given us a cherished memory, a spark of holiday joy and a moment to believe in the magic of the season.”

“Here’s to George, the conductor of the Polar Express. Thank you for making Urbanna’s holiday season truly unforgettable,” she said.
