Middlesex High School performs relaunch of varsity girls hoops
It’s not unusual to say a team will be “rebuilding.” But this year’s Middlesex High School varsity girls basketball team is practically starting from scratch. Last season there was no varsity team. It was disbanded due to a low turn out by players. Girls that were eligible played on the junior varsity team.
This season, Head Coach O’Shae Forrest and Assistant Coach Michael Lewis Sr. will guide a team with just two upper class members — senior Zikirah Morris and junior Leah Peso.
There are
six sopho-mores: Alyssa
Hooks, Liz-zie Fogg, Shania Bland, Jasmine Joras, Leanna Baker and Aleena Reza.
Five freshmen made the team: Brooklyn Horace, Melody Jones, Sophia Sandlin, Anaiya Billups and Rylee Buck.
The Lady Chargers opened the season at Northumberland on Tuesday.
The varsity Lady Chargers play in Chincoteague on Friday at 5:30 p.m.
On Tuesday, Dec. 10, Middlesex JV and varsity is at Lancaster.
The Lady Chargers host King William on Thursday, Dec. 12, in the first home game; and they host Rappahannock of Warsaw on Monday, Dec. 16.
