Jerry Edward Cooke, affectionately known as Dad, Papa and Muff, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2024, at the age of 85. Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, whose life was marked by service, love and adventure.
Jerry is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Jane; and their four children, Jerry “Jay” Cooke Jr. (Debbie), Steve Cooke (Lisa), Cindy Harp, and Sandra Snead (Wayne). He is also survived by his brother, Randolph. He was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren, Kathrine (Mike and daughter Madison), Steven (Skye), Linsey (Charlie and sons Kip and Tate), Shannon (Brendan), Zack(Hallie and son Alden), Ashley, Prestin (Max), and Kyle.
Jerry’s life was a testament to heroism and dedication. He served his country with honor, first in the National Guard and then in the Navy, before dedicating 22 years to the Henrico County Fire Department. His heroism extended beyond his professional life, as he was a pillar of strength and love to his family and friends. Jerry and Jane shared a passion for travel and exploring the world together. They cherished their time at their homes in Virginia and Florida. He was an active member of the Piankatank River Golf Club, proud Free Mason of Urbanna Lodge 83 and valued community member.
Jerry will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of love, service and adventure will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.
Visitation is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 6 at Saluda Baptist Church. Services are also planned for Friday, Dec. 6 — one at 11 a.m. at Saluda Baptist Church and a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Signal Hill Memorial Park in Hanover.
