Middlesex High School’s (MHS) volleyball team led the first-team All-Region 1A selection with four of its players — Karlie Morris, Addy Heasley, Libby Oliver and Hailey Bruce. All four Lady Chargers were earlier named to the first-team All-Tidewater District.
Lady Charger middle blocker Karlie Morris was voted the Region 1A player of the year. She also was the Tidewater District player of the year for the second consecutive year. In 2023, Morris was on the first team All-State.
Morris has committed to play volleyball at Randolph Macon College in Ashland next year.
Morris set a new school record for total career kills and has more than 371 kills this season. Morris averaged more than 21 kills per game in post season play, including 37 in the District tournament. She had 33 kills in the regional championship game and 64 in the tournament’s three games. Morris also had 23 kills against Region 1B champions Altavista Combined School in the Nov. 16 State quarter-final Lady Charger win, where she had 11 blocks and eight stuff blocks.
(On Nov. 12, Rappahannock of Warsaw defeated the Lady Chargers, 3-2, in the regional final to claim its fourth straight Region 1A championship and its fifth in the last six years. On Nov. 19 at Warsaw, the Raider girls defeated Middlesex, 3-1, in the semifinals of the Class 1 State Tournament.)
Addy Heasley
Setting specialist Addy Heasley, who repeats as a first-team All-Region player, set an MHS school record for total career assists. This season Heasley has more than 619 assists, 213 digs and 126 serving aces. She also has 75 kills, including seven in the Regional championship. She is a four-year player.
Libby Oliver
Libby Oliver, the Lady Charger libero, has 310 digs this season along with 25 assists, a serving efficiency of 94% with 40 aces, and a 2.15 serve receive average. Oliver had 19 digs and six assists in the Regional championship, with two aces. In the state quarter-finals, she had 19 digs, an ace and 2.35 service receive average.
Hailey Bruce
Hailey Bruce, who is an outside hitter, has committed to play at Mary Baldwin University in Staunton. In 2024 she has 149 kills, 30 aces and a serving efficiently of 88%, with 196 digs. In the district tournament, Bruce had 11 kills and 10 digs. In three Region 1A Tournament games, Bruce had 15 kills, two aces and 18 digs. At the state quarter-final, she had three kills, two aces and 15 digs.
Second team
Lady Chargers making second team All-Region 1A include juniors Carly Jessie and Courtney Jessie.
Sophomore Rori Stuart received an honorable mention to All-Region 1A team.
