Friends of Dragon Run hike slated for Dec. 8

Hikers participate in last year’s First Day of Fall Walk sponsored by Friends of Dragon Run. (Contributed)

The leaves are falling fast and the temperature reminds folks that winter is right around the corner. This season’s Friends of Dragon Run (FODR) members hike will be conducted at the group’s Powcan property in Essex County near Millers Tavern.

This year the beavers have a special treat for you. The beaver is a keystone species in Dragon Run and helps provide a unique habitat for a variety of plants and animals. This summer it was discovered that beavers had created a new beaver dam near the Dragon’s headwaters. With reduced water levels, the construction and extent of their engineering is on display.

Join Friends of Dragon Run on Sunday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. for the group’s last member event of 2024. Plan for the weather.

To attend, register at www.dragonrun.org.
