Urbanna will “Enjoy The Christmas Spirit All Day” on Saturday, Dec. 7, with a day of events that peak with the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus during the 29th annual Urbanna Hometown Christmas Parade.
The Middlesex Woman’s Club’s historic building will be decked with fresh greens and a breathtaking 12-foot tall Christmas tree. The Yuletide Sweets sale offers all the treats of the season! The Christmas Shoppe will be filled with an array of items to brighten your Christmas holidays.
Business will be in the holiday spirit, too:
- River House Creations (240A Virginia St.) will have holiday vendors inside from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children from noon to 3 p.m. for photos with children or pets. At 3 p.m. children can make a free ornament.
- The Urbanna Museum & Visitors Center (140 Virginia St.) will be open and serving refreshments.
- Fabulous Fines (51 Cross St.) 10% off storewide — open house.
- If It’s Wood and More (51 Cross St.) 10%-25% off storewide – open house.

- 8 a.m. — Breakfast with the elves at The Wooden Pickle Cafe, at its new location, 280A Virginia St.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — Christmas Village in Taber Park, with various vendors and food trucks.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — River House Creations Craft Market with local vendors, 240 Virginia St. Vendors include River Dogs, collars, bandanas, treats, personalized ornaments; Cathy’s Custom Crafts, custom wreaths; Waterview Arts, resin art coasters and wall hangings; Summer Breeze, oyster necklaces and ornaments; Farley’s Bakery, adorable cookies and cakes; and Katelin’s Kreations, custom jewelry.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — Open house at the Urbanna Museum and Visitor Center, 130 Virginia St., with hot chocolate and snacks.
- 10 a.m.-4 p.m. — Alpacas by Red Barn Farms. Pet alpacas and have your camera handy for photos with them. Next to the Middlesex Woman’s Club, 202 Virginia St.
- 10 a.m.-8 p.m. — Wine tasting at the Urbanna Trading Co., 290 Virginia St.
- Noon-3 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus photos with children and pets at River House Creations, 240 Virginia St.
- Noon — Registration for the Pet Parade will be at Taber Park
- 1 p.m. — Pet parade
- 3 p.m. — Children’s crafts at River House Creations, 240 Virginia St.
- At 4:30 p.m. the annual festival of trees will be held at historic Lansdowne, 271 Virginia St. There will be 17 trees decorated by local businesses, non-profit organizations and the local schools.
- The Middlesex High School Choir will open the official lighting of the trees.
- Voting for decorated trees is open to the public by ballot and by voting on the Urbanna Facebook page. Voting begins at 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6, through Saturday, Dec. 7, at 3 p.m. Winners will be announced at the lighting of the trees. - 4-6:30 p.m. — Volunteers of the Middlesex Volunteer Fire Department will be selling food at the firehouse, including fried oyster baskets with french fries, chicken tender baskets with french fries, oyster stew, and drinks. DJ will play Christmas music, 330 Virginia St.
- From 5 p.m. until after the Christmas Parade, Small Town Burger (241 Virginia St.) will have their firepits to warm you and free hot chocolate.
- 5:30 p.m. — Light Maze opens at Taber Park, 425 Bonner St. and will remain open through the holiday season.
- 7 p.m. — The 29th Urbanna Hometown Christmas Parade begins. Parade line-up is between the firehouse and the town hall, 390 Virginia St. Call the town hall to enter, 804-758-2613. The grand marshal will be Dale Taylor.
- The judges stand will be located in the Urbanna Market lot. There will be prizes awarded for first and second place in the following categories: commercial floats, non-commercial floats, walking units, bands, EMS, antique vehicles, tractor trailers, golf carts, and specialty units.
- 8 p.m. — After the parade awards will be presented, and Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children at the Urbanna firehouse with cookies, treats, food, 330 Virginia St.
Pet event in Taber Park
Registration starts at noon for the Urbanna Christmas Pet Parade and Fun Pet Show to be offered in Taber Park.
Categories for parade prizes include: Most Beautiful Costume, Most Creative Costume, Funniest Costume, Cutest Costume, Largest pet entry, smallest pet entry, largest group entry, adopted Shelter Dog, Youngest Handler (may be accompanied by adult for control).
Lansdowne open for tour
Historic Lansdowne will be open from 1-5 p.m. for free walk through tour. Col. A.B. Gravatt and his late wife, Diane Gravatt, brought this house back to life. After years of restoration and hard work, the house is still showing its best and makes Mr. Gravatt extra proud and he wants to share it with everyone.
To continue helping the community each family that attends the tour is asked to bring a non-perishable food item or unwrapped toy for donation for this holiday season.
