Belinda Marie Williams-Beverley was born on May 30, 1958, in Richmond, to the late Thomas A. Williams and Marie Everett-Williams.
She peacefully departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2024.
Belinda and her sisters were lovingly raised in Saluda, by their great-grandmother, Florence Hodges, affectionately known as “Big Momma.”
She attended Rappahannock Central Elementary School before moving with her family to Philadelphia, Pa., and later settled in Malvern. While in Malvern, Belinda became a cheerleader for the football and varsity basketball teams. In 10th grade, she returned to Saluda, where she attended and graduated from Middlesex High School. During her high school years, she excelled as a member of the girls basketball team.
Belinda accepted Christ early in life and was baptized at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Saluda, her first church home. In 1996, she joined Calvary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served as a dedicated deaconess. Known for her unwavering faith, Belinda loved sharing God’s word through daily text messages filled with scriptures and inspirational messages to uplift others. She was a true warrior of God, always giving of herself and supporting those in need.
Belinda began her professional career with the Department of Agriculture, where she worked diligently for many years. On Aug. 1, 1996, she transitioned to the Department of Probation and Parole in Gloucester, where she served with dedication and excellence until her well-earned retirement on Dec. 31, 2023.
Belinda is survived by her devoted husband, Charles St. Clare Beverley Sr.; and her cherished son, Charles St. Clare Beverley Jr.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Curtis Thomas Howard Beverley. She also leaves to mourn her passing three loving sisters, Cynthia Williams of Baltimore, Md., Tamie Jackson of Dallas, Texas, and Tamica Willard of Stafford; as well as her brother-in-law, Timothy Willard.
Belinda was a beloved aunt to her two nephews, Kenneth Jackson Jr. and the late Michael Jackson; and five nieces, Melissa Williams-White, Cynise Williams-Riley, Shamelle Williams-Riley, all of Baltimore, Md., Selena Burrell of Richmond, and Thomazina Watson-Williams of Baltimore, Md. She also leaves behind one great-niece, Kaedun White of Baltimore, Md., and was preceded in death by her great-nephew, Kaesun White.
Her extended family includes four uncles, Earl Williams and Freddy Williams of Philadelphia, Pa., Theodore Williams of New Jersey, and Kenny Everett of Ahoskie, N.C.; six aunts, Josephine Lee and Mary Holloman of Fort Washington, Md., Sadie Askew of Ahoskie, N.C., Brenda Jennings of Fayetteville, N.C., and Florence Tucker and Carolyn Blueford of Philadelphia, Pa.; two great-uncles, Elmore Hodges of Saluda, and Norman Hodges of Philadelphia, Pa.; and one great-aunt, Fannie Mae Ruffin of Wayne, Pa.
A special acknowledgment is extended to Belinda’s second mother, Carrie Whitting of Saluda, whose unconditional love and care enriched Belinda’s life in immeasurable ways.
Belinda’s life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and connection. She was cherished by a host of cousins, friends, co-workers, church members, and the entire Beverley family, all of whom she considered her brothers and sisters.
A funeral service to celebrate Belinda’s extraordinary life is planned for noon Saturday, Nov. 23 at Calvary Baptist Church, 3971 General Puller Highway, Saluda.
