Cost hikes adding up on MC sheriff’s office work

The Middlesex County Board of Supervisors voted Wednesday, Nov. 6, to appropriate $40,797 worth of change orders on renovation of the old Puller Center building at Cooks Corner into the new Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office building.

Since the start of renovation, Norman Company Inc. of Mechanicsville has had supervisors approve a total of $177,007 worth of change orders, or approximately 5% of the original $3.3 million bid made by Norman to do the job.

The current projected cost to complete the project is at about $3.4 million, still below the $3.7 million 2022 estimate.

Supervisors Chairman Don Harris said he hopes there will not be many more changes. “We expected some change orders because they are working on an old building, but we are hopeful this is going to end soon,” he said.
