The Christchurch School varsity boys soccer team won the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association (VISAA) Division II State Soccer Championship on Monday, Nov. 11, at Segra Field in Leesburg.
The Seahorses finished the regular season ranked number one in VISAA Division II. On Monday, Nov. 4, they hosted the division quarter-finals, defeating Virginia Academy 2-0 to advance to the semi-finals.
In a quick turnaround, the team then traveled to Segra Field for the semi-finals, defeating number four-ranked Blue Ridge 3-1 to earn a championship berth.
On Monday, Nov. 11, the Seahorses defeated the Seton Hall Conquistadors of Manassas, 2-0, for the crown.
To support the team, the school consolidated its academic schedule on Monday to allow fans to travel to the match.
Christchurch transported more than 150 students and faculty to the venue in Northern Virginia, to support the team. Head of School Billy Coyle covered the $10 entrance tickets for all students, faculty and staff who traveled to the game.
Other schools in VISAA Division II include Seton School, North Cross School, Blue Ridge School, Eastern Mennonite School, Trinity Christian School, Norfolk Collegiate School, The Covenant School, Virginia Academy, Atlantic Shores Christian School, Highland School, Hampton Roads Academy, The Steward School, and King Abdullah Academy.
