Middlesex Chargers face Northampton Friday in football quarter-finals

With injury-plagued Mathews High School’s forfeit last week, the Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger football team (6-3, 3-0) will travel to Eastville on the Eastern Shore of Virginia to play the Northampton Yellow Jackets (8-2, 2-0) in the quarter-finals Friday night in the Region A football tournament. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Northampton is ranked third in the region and 16th in Division 1A. the Chargers are ranked sixth in the region and 24th in the state.

The number one ranked team in Region A and ranked second in Division 1A, Rappahannock of Warsaw (10-0, 6-0) will play eighth ranked King & Queen Central (4-6, 2-3); number two ranked Essex (9-1, 4-1), ranked fifth in the state, will play West Point (4-6, 3-2); and fourth ranked Westmoreland (6-4, 3-3), will play fifth ranked Northumberland (5-4, 2-3).

The winner of the Chargers/Yellow Jackets game will play the winner of the Essex/West Point contest in the semi-finals. The winner of the Rappahannock of Warsaw/King & Queen Central contest will play the winner of the Westmoreland/Northumberland game.

The date, location and times of the semi-final games are to be announced.
