Most MC voters back GOP candidates
Robert “Robbie” Wilson III was the top vote getter in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election to decide who would fill three seats on the Urbanna Town Council. Wilson received 110 votes to capture 28.8% of the votes cast, according to unofficial results posted on the state elections website Wednesday morning. Two incumbents, Alana Courtney and Marjorie Austin, were re-elected to serve additional four-year terms on the council, with Courtney receiving 91 votes (23.8%) and Austin receiving 90 votes (23.6%). A fourth council candidate, incumbent Sandra Sturgill, failed to win re-election, receiving 78 votes (20.4%).
Each council seat is considered “non-partisan” and their new terms begin Jan. 1, 2025.
In the presidential race, major news media outlets were declaring Wednesday morning that Republican Donald Trump was the nationwide winner over Democrat Kamala Harris. Trump also received the most votes among the ballots cast by Middlesex County voters, receiving 4,291 votes (63.2%) to Harris’ 2,418 votes (35.6%).
Republican incumbent Rob Wittman retained his 1st District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, winning both district-wide and in Middlesex, 4.498 (66.9%) to Democratic challenger Leslie Mehta, 2,208 (32.8%).
Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine retained his U.S. Senate seat, winning statewide, but not in Middlesex, where Republican Hung Cao received 4,203 votes (62.5%) to Kaine’s 2,512 votes (37.3%).
