Taste of Middlesex set for Saturday at DMM

Join the Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park for their third annual Taste of Middlesex Festival, set for 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. There will be local food of all types, craft beers, car show, a wine tasting and the popular new “Orange Smash” beverage. See the Tidewater Oyster Growers Association (TOGA) display, a classic car show, DMM’s own John Smith shallop replica “Explorer” and DMM’s own Holly Point Railroaders will be running model trains.

There will also be live music all day in the events pavilion, deadrise “Discovery” creek cruises, weather permitting, tours of the F.D. Crockett and the boat shop. Add Karen Minter’s children’s games and activities and you have a day with something for everyone.

Admission is free, but there will be a per car parking donation of $5.

Don’t miss the new “Outside Exhibit Center” ongoing construction north of the museum.

Thanks so much to all of our community-minded chefs and restaurants who have stepped up to help make this festival happen.

In the open events pavilion, live music starts at 10 a.m. as local musicians Ollie and Sandy Adcock begin the day of music. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the “Blues in the Night” band takes the stage followed by the “Ray Pittman Revival” from 1-4 p.m.

In the music area of the open events pavilion the festival will be offering bottles of Virginia-brewed craft beers. Devil’s Backbone Vienna, Legend Brown, an IPA, and Hard Rock Cider will all be on tap along with the popular domestic beer Michelob Ultra in cans. The bloody Mary and mimosa bar will be right next to the pavilion ready to go at 10 a.m.

For the bars there will be an earlybird special with drink tickets on sale at $5 each or five for $20 from 10 a.m.-noon. Bloody Mary’s, highballs and bottled beer will take one ticket and the new Orange Smash, two tickets.
