MHS volleyball team remains tops in Tidewater

The Middlesex High School varsity volleyball team is in first place in the Tidewater District. As the number one seed they have clinched home court advantage for the upcoming tournament.

The Lady Chargers are 19-2 with their only losses being to Bruton in an invitational tournament and King William whom they defeated once this season.

“Pink Night”

Tonight, Thursday, Oct. 17, is the final home game of the regular season and the “Pink Night” observance of breast cancer awareness. All proceeds will go to cancer patient, Angel Dickerson Brown, an MHS alumna and Saluda resident.

There will be a 50/50 raffle and a Turtle Box speaker will be raffled. The varsity and junior varsity Lady Chargers will host Charles City. The JV plays at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity follows at 7 p.m.

The Lady Chargers’ final regular season match is set for Tuesday, Oct. 22, at West Point with the JV playing at 5:30 p.m. and varsity playing at 7 p.m.

Rally at Rappahannock

On Oct. 7, the Lady Chargers prevailed after losing the first two sets at Rappahannock of Warsaw 25-14 and 25-14, but then rallied to win the next three sets 25-20, 25-19 and 25-11 and take the match.

King and Queen

In other action, Middlesex defeated host King and Queen Central in three sets 25-10, 25-20 and 25-9 on Oct. 10. Karadee Anderson made all seven of her serves with an ace. Serving at 92% were Hannah Lambert with 13 serves and one ace; and Hailey Bruce who had six aces in her 13 serves.

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Middlesex defeated host Mathews.
