The Middlesex County community stepped up this week to assist those suffering from Hurricane Helene that on Sept. 26-28 caused widespread destruction and fatalities in areas of southwest North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia and Tennessee. Helene is being described as one of the deadliest storms to hit the U.S. this century.

Members of the local Middlesex Moose Lodge 2401 in Hartfield spearheaded and encouraged the community to donate needed items to help those impacted by the storm in North Carolina. The organization collected enough donations over the last week to fill a U-haul truck “to the brim.”

I cannot begin to say ‘thank you’ to all those that have donated and volunteered their time,” said Shannon Sears of the local Moose Lodge. “Today (Monday) we packed a 27-foot U-haul (truck) to the brim with much needed items for our friends in North Carolina.”

“A special shout out to the amazing kids and adults from The Foundry, who showed up to help pack and Lancaster, Virginia, Moose #2527, Gloucester Moose Lodge and Montross Moose for collecting and bringing their donations…”
