MHS golfers capture region runner-up honors

The Middlesex High School golf team finished second to Northumberland in the Region 1A Tournament on Thursday, Oct. 3, at the Golden Eagle Golf Course in Irvington. Northumberland defeated Middlesex 338 to 357.

Leading the Chargers was Kai Evans, who medaled with an 84. Nielson McMinn medaled with an 85, and Henry Fleet medaled with a 92. Abel Crader and Cameron Lambert both shot 96 and Caleb Jackson shot 118.

Both Northumberland and Middlesex advance to the State Class 1 Tournament, which is set for Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Great Oaks Country Club in Floyd in southwest Virginia. All six Charger golfers will play in the state tournament with only the top four scores counting.
