Garland E. Dobbins

Garland E. Dobbins, 77, of Deltaville, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, Oct. 4, 2024.

A native of Charlotte Court House, he was a member of Mount Tirzah Baptist Church.

Garland was a Vietnam War veteran and was awarded a Purple Heart for combat injuries, a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion, a lifetime member of the Donovan Masonic Lodge No. 75 of Deltaville and the Urbana Royal Arch No. 59, and retired with distinction from the Central Intelligence Agency serving 29 years as a logistician and transportation officer around the world.

Garland is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda; daughter, Tracie and her fiancé Alderman; brothers, Edward Dobbins and Kenneth Dobbins (Mary); sisters, Francis Shores, Juanita P. Hylton (Donny), Betty Faye Augeri (Joe) and Phyllis Clay; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Emma Way; in addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Garland was predeceased by his parents, Thurman and Faye Dobbins; brothers, Thurman Dobbins Jr. and Gilbert Dobbins; sister, Lillian Elder; and brother and sister-in-law, Gilmer and Madeline Way.

A service to celebrate Garland’s life is planned for 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11 at Clarksbury Church in Hardyville. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m. A reception will follow at the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad in Deltaville.  Burial will take place at a later date at National Memorial Cemetery at Quantico.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad and the staffs of Riverside Walter Reed Hospital, Riverside Home Health Care, Riverside Hospice Care Middlesex Peninsula, St. Mary’s Hospital, Rappahannock General Hospital and Regional Memorial Medical Center for their excellent care and compassion during Garland’s illness.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Garland’s memory can be made to the Middlesex Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98, Deltaville, VA 23043.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel, Saluda, is assisting the family.
