Sarah Nalle Geeson

Sarah Nalle Geeson, a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the age of 92 after a long and fulfilling life.

Born in Bluefield, W. Va. on June 21, 1932, Sarah was the daughter of the late William A. Thompson and Mary Draper Thompson.

She was preceded in death by her second husband, Don L. Geeson (d. 2018); first husband, Thomas A. Nalle Jr. (d. 1968); brother, William A. Thompson Jr. and his wife, Betty Atkins Thompson; and eldest granddaughter, Lindsey Paul Rudolph.

Sarah is survived by her three children, Pamela Hipp and her husband Doug, Susan Swan and her husband Dave, and Tom Nalle and his wife Laurie; as well as her step-children, Susan Paul and her husband Bob, David Geeson and his wife Tricia, and Jan FitzHugh and her husband Coby. Sarah is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Sarah graduated from Wise High School in 1950 and from Madison College in 1954. As a military wife, she spent many years moving between various Marine Corps bases and raising her three children. After Tom’s death, Sarah moved to Richmond, where she worked as an operating room technician and started a small business creating and sewing beautiful wedding dresses. She then created a second small business creating and sewing Ultrasuede accessory items that were carried in the Talbots catalogue as well as numerous hotel and specialty shops.

She moved with her husband, Don, to Deltaville, and spent their retirement hosting her extended family with wonderful birthday weekends, sailing on the Golden Girl, volunteering at Christ Church, and most of all, enjoying their wonderful life on the Chesapeake Bay. She was an active participant in community projects and as a member of Christ Church Parish (Episcopal), where she led the children’s program for a number of years, was a member of the altar guild, and sang in the choir.

A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13 at Christ Church Parish, 56 Christ Church Lane, Christchurch. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christ Church Parish (Episcopal), P.O. Box 476, Saluda, VA 23149, or to a charity of your choice.
