MHS senior halfback JaQuan Griffin sets school records
for most touchdowns scored and yards gained in a game

The Middlesex High School (MHS) Charger football team (1-1, 0-0) exploded on offense for 62 points and nine touchdowns which led to a 62-32 victory over the Windsor Dukes Friday night.

Charger senior halfback JaQuan Griffin rushed for MHS school records in touchdowns scored and yards gained as the halfback ran for 305 yards on 13 carries and scored six touchdowns. The MHS school touchdown record was held by Wayne H. Jessie Sr., who scored five touchdowns in a game in 1979. (Jessie is the current Jamaica District supervisor.)

Davonte Griffin scored two touchdowns for the Chargers — one on a 58-yard kickoff return and another was a defensive touchdown when the MHS defensive back picked up a Windsor fumble and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown. (Davonte Griffin is JaQuan Griffin’s younger brother.)

Jakub Bowen scored a rushing touchdown and rushed for 57 yards on three carries. Bowen also caught two passes from quarterback Shane Glenn for 45 passing yards. Hayden Brown rushed for 24 yards on four carries.

Coming up

The Chargers will travel to Lancaster (1-1, 0-0) to take on the Red Devils this Friday, Sept. 20. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
