Middlesex Supervisors learned that the Middle Peninsula Regional Planning District Commission (MPRPDC), in partnership with Marine Advisory Services at the VIMS, has received a U.S. Department of Transportation “RAISE” grant to find and develop desirable waterfronts for commercial fishing activities and other types of maritime ventures.
Ricky Wiatt of the engineering and design firm of Vanessa Hangen Brustlinreported at the supervisors regular monthly meeting on Sept. 3 that his firm was hired to look at sites on the Middle Peninsula to determine which sites would be best suited for maritime industry development.
Wiatt said the number of potential locations has been reduced to 12. Three of those sites are in Middlesex, three in Mathews, four in Gloucester and one each in King and Queen and Essex.
The projects are all still in the planning stages, said Wiatt, and he said he was not ready to release information about which specific sites were being considered but he plans to come back later this year with more information and plans are to apply for construction grants in January…
