School board gives land at Cooks Corner back to county

The Middlesex County School Board voted unanimously on Monday at the board’s regular monthly meeting to give 19 acres of land near the Middlesex County Animal Shelter at Cooks Corner back to the Middlesex County Board of Supervisors.

School officials gained control of the property back when the county was considering building St. Clare Walker Middle School (SCW). Ultimately, SCW was built in the Locust Hill area and the Cooks Corner property remained vacant.

Supervisors Chairman Don Harris, in attendance at the school board meeting, said that the county has no plans for the land, but said he feels that if the Middlesex County Public Schools was not going to use the property it should come back to the county.

Don Harris also said there may be future county use of the property because its location is close to the new Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office building, the animal control shelter and the new Buddy (recreational) Park that the county is developing nearby. “It is in a good location where we may be able to use it ourselves down the road…”
