Twenty-nine newly hired teachers, other staff named by MC schools

Middlesex County Public Schools welcomed 28 newly hired teachers and staff members for the 2024-2025 school year, which started Monday, Aug. 19. The following includes their names, position, and academic degrees.

Middlesex Elementary School

Tiffany Hedtke – student support specialist; master’s degree in human services counseling from Liberty University.

Marcie Eberline – school nurse; bachelor of nursing degree from Virginia Commonwealth University, associate nursing degree from J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, bachelor’s degree in history and political science.

Sherri Liverman  – kindergarten teacher; teaching associate from Halifax Community College; background in child development and child psychology.

Gina Sanchez – fourth grade teacher; bachelor’s degree in psychology from Christopher Newport University.

Monica Turner – fifth grade teacher; Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from West Chester University.

Justin Hayes – fifth grade teacher; bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from University of Mary Washington.

Angela Boucher – fifth grade teacher; Master of Education degree from American InterContinental University and bachelor’s degree in elementary and special education from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania.

Margaret Via – master’s degree in special education from Virginia Commonwealth University; Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education from Old Dominion University.

Vicki Attardo – art teacher; Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts; bachelor of fine arts degree, and endorsement through Old Dominion University career switcher program.

Ashley Turner – music teacher; master’s degree in teaching from Christopher Newport University.

Shanna Van Leeuween – paraprofessional.

Jessica Harrison – building base substitute teacher.

Brittin Payne – assistant principal; master’s degree in health and physical education and bachelor’s in kinesiology.

TJ Balderson – health and physical education teacher; bachelor’s degree in information technology.

Tara Hunter – career and life readiness teacher; bachelor’s degree in speech communication and art history from Oneonta State University; level 1 endorsement for family and consumer science through the Virginia Community College System career switcher program.

Korin Hall – seventh grade teacher; bachelor of science degree in management from Clemson University, master’s degree in special education from George Mason University.

Victoria Simmons – math teacher; candidate for bachelor of education degree in secondary mathematics from Liberty University.

Rhonda Bruzenski – building base substitute teacher.

Terri Carmine – English teacher; master’s degree in English from Old Dominion University and bachelor’s degree in English from University of Virginia’s College at Wise.

Mike Carey – science; master’s degree in education resource/collaborating teaching from the College of William and Mary and bachelor’s degree in geology and geophysics from Yale University.

Wanda Johnson – special education teacher; bachelor’s degree in health and human services from Wilberforce University.

Mia Swan – special education teacher; master’s degree in educational leadership in technology from George Washington University, master’s degree in special education from Old Dominion University, and bachelor’s degree in general studies from University of Maryland.

Cory Shumaker – band director; bachelor’s degree in music education from James Madison University.

Shatema Brown and Terri Bell – paraprofessionals.
