Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park continues its market season on Saturday, Aug. 24, as you all know, we now have plenty of produce vendors as part of the Holly Point Market vendor mix. The day is more than just produce as arts, crafts, peanuts, photographs, live music, model trains, hot food, and a wealth of unusual items fill the market. Live music begins at 10 a.m. in the events pavilion and DMM opens early at 9 a.m. with donation only admission.

The last of our Summer Classic car shows will be on display at the Aug. 24 market from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. This is a cruise-in, so bring your own “show-off” vehicle as early as 8 a.m.

Captain Pete Cardozo and the Jackson Creek Discovery Cruises will begin at 10 a.m. on the “Pierwalk” on Mill Creek. Folks are coming from all over Virginia to get a chance to ride on an authentic Deltaville deadrise. All cruises in 2024 will be on DMM’s newly acquired deadrise “Jennie May,” The National Landmark “F.D. Crockett” will open for tours on the “Pierwalk” at 10 a.m. Check out the current build project, which will be on display at the boat shop beginning at 10 a.m.

Vendors in produce, arts, crafts, photographs, peanuts, “one-of- a-kinds” and much more line the shady arbors of the park.

As previously reported. “Stuck on a Name,” our popular Reggae band that was scheduled to headline our Aug. 24 Groovin’ in the Park concert has canceled, due to circumstances beyond their control. Randy Crittenden and the bluegrass band “Rappahannock Crossing” will headline the 5-8 p.m. “Groovin’ in the Park” performance. Crittenden is bringing himself on dobro, Mike Nicely will be on guitar, Curtis Brizendine on banjo, Isaac Hyde on  mandolin, and Mitch Tolson on bass.

Opening from 5-6 p.m. will be Gary Archer and the “Members.” The “Members,” bringing you rock with a flavor of the Chesapeake Bay, are Ray Tolson, guitar, vocals; Brian Marron, lead guitar, vocals; Danny Cox, keyboards and guitar and vocals; Clark Robins, bass guitar; and Gary Archer, drums, vocals.

Breakfast sandwiches will be served at the tea house beginning at 8:30 a.m. with hot dogs grilling at 10 a.m. bloody marys, mimosas and screwdrivers available at the bar. Check out our new “orange smash” available at Groovin’ that evening. Keep an eye on the Sentinel for other changes as we approach Aug. 24.

Groovin’ in the Park is a “bring your own lawn chair, cooler and picnic” event. Gates open at 4 p.m., rain or shine. There’s plenty of convenient parking and there is convenient drop-off area at the gate.
