Prepare now for more rough weather

With hurricane season developing, and the remnants of Hurricane Debby expected to move through the area this week, Dominion Energy reminds residents that now is the time to prepare for weather emergencies.
Some things to consider include:

  • Download the Dominion Energy mobile app — It’s best way to report outages and track restoration. It is free in the Apple and Google Play stores. You may also use the website or call 866-DOM-HELP.
  • Fully charge devices before the storm — This includes your phone, computer and other electronic devices. Consider purchasing batteries to extend the life of your devices.
  • Properly connect your generator — If you have a generator, make sure it is fueled, tested, and properly connected before the storm arrives, and always operate it outdoors with good ventilation.
  • Stay away from downed poles or wires — Trees and limbs may pull down power lines. Assume they are energized, stay at least 30 feet away and report them by calling 866-DOM-HELP.
  • Create an emergency kit — It should include essential items like water, non-perishable food, first aid kit, flashlights, etc. Put them in something easy to carry like a plastic bin or duffel bags.
