Karli Parker and Monroe Hudnall

Queen contestant Karli Parker and her little miss spat contestant Monroe Hudnall have been working on a community service project to raise awareness of the benefits of youth sports with an emphasis on the proper sports gear. They have been out in the community raising awareness for a cause that they both feel passionate about, but the community does not have a dedicated nonprofit organization that serves our community and addresses this need.

They have been working hard to raise money to purchase cleats and other safety devices for underprivileged youth in our community. They hope to not only eliminate one of the leading causes for barriers in youth sports participation, attributing to its decline; but to eliminate the risks for injury due to not having the proper gear or equipment to play safely.

Karli, as an athlete, feels very passionately that financial barriers should not affect a child’s participation in youth sports or should put them at risk of injury that could in turn incur lifelong health issues. She feels very passionate about youth sports ensuring the upmost safety of all who participate. Karli feels that the benefits, both physically and psychologically, of youth sports participation is so great that all children should be afforded the opportunity regardless of the socioeconomic status they were born into, if they are interested in participating. She and her spat would love to break down barriers and provide other youth in the community the opportunity to obtain the much-needed items for participation to play safely and confidently.

Karli is the daughter of Lamar and Kerry Parker of Christchurch. She is the granddaughter of the late Ruth Bias Thompson and Matthew Thompson of Urbanna, and Amos and Sharon Ackes of Saluda. Karli attends Middlesex High School. She enjoys all things sports, reading, and crafting in her spare time. Following high school, she plans to attend college and obtain her degree in registered nursing with an emphasis on neonatal nursing and volunteer her free time coaching youth sports.

Monroe Hudnall is the daughter of Miranda Newall of Hartfield and Quinton Hudnall. She is the granddaughter of the late Gregory Kimble and Alfreda Ackes of Urbanna, and Keri Paige and Kisha Bunns of Church View. Monroe attends Middlesex Elementary School. In her free time, Monroe enjoys swimming, gymnastics, playing t-ball, and feeding and cuddling her new baby brother. When Monroe grows up, she wants to be a primary care doctor and a superstar. Karli has no doubt that Monroe will achieve both of these dreams.
