The sun set on Gertrude L. Hiers on Monday, July 15, 2024, peacefully at her home, surrounded by her children.
She was born March 10, 1933 to the late Mildred Everett Ruffin and Arthur Greenwood Ruffin.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pinkney Hiers. She is survived by her four children and one stepson, Gregory Hiers, Pinkney “Beaver” Hiers, Mildred “Cookie” Willis (Vanderrick), Jeffrey Hiers (Dina) and Walter “Skinny” Bennett; eight grandchildren, Al Merchason, Craig Hiers, Dionne Hiers, Katrina Murray (Jawayne), Vanreeka Willis, Jeffery Hiers Jr., Joshua Hiers and Joseph Hiers; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives an friends.
The viewing will be 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 19 at J.K. Redmond Funeral Home. The funeral service is planned for noon Saturday, July 20 at Lebanon Baptist Church, Saluda. Interment will be in Zion Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda.
