John C. Haynes Jr., 76, of Mascot, joined his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
John was a charter member of West Point Community Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher for many years. He was a lifelong fan of NASCAR and was particularly fond of the Alabama gang. John treasured time spent with family, especially his sons. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) after 19 years of service.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John C. Sr. and Geneva Haynes; his in-laws, Stanley and Dorothy Brooke; brothers, James W. Haynes and Steven C. Haynes; and his brother in-law, Ray James.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl Haynes; two sons, John Kevin Haynes (Renya) of Ocala, Fla., and Gregory Alan Haynes of Richmond; two sisters in-law, Elaine Haynes and Jackie James; as well as several nieces and nephews; and many grandchildren of the heart.
The funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Monday, July 15 at Vincent Funeral Home, West Point and interment will follow in Lower King and Queen Baptist Church Cemetery, Mascot.
