The Deltaville Maritime Museum (DMM) and Holly Point Nature Park offers a series of Deltaville Maritime Museum Discovery Cruises.

The cruises offer both the experience of a ride on an authentic Chesapeake Bay workboat and tours of the various historic water trails and landmarks along Mill Creek, Jackson Creek and Fishing Bay — all near the DMM grounds. Bottled water will be available. These cruises begin at 10 a.m. at the pierwalk on Mill Creek on all Holly Point market days and will happen next on July 27 during that market, which is 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Captain Pete Cardozo has been running these popular cruises for more than 10 years. Captain Pete has taken out 100s of passengers on our 32-foot classic deadrise workboat, the “Jennie May.” For a lot of the passengers it is the first and only time they have been on an actual deadrise workboat.

DMM offers the free cruises to find out if people are interested and get their feedback, so DMM can make the cruises more fun and interesting for most folks. Watch the paper and the DMM website for details.

The cruises are weather sensitive so to find out if the cruises are happening,
call the DMM office at 804-776-7200.

Captain Pete says, “We are able to take up to six passengers in reasonable comfort. The Jennie May is fairly roomy. The 30-45 minute cruise usually follows the John Smith Trail and other points of interest, but if a group has a special interest we have the flexibilility to conform the tour to what they would like.”

Captain Pete added, “The relatively shallow draft of the Jennie allows us to get in close to most shorelines for those interested in wildlife.

Tours of the DMM boat shop and F.D. Crockett also begin on the pierwalk at 9 a.m.
