Temperatures approaching triple digits may have kept away many spectators, but nearly a dozen decorated boats showed their spirit in the annual Urbanna Boat Parade on Saturday.

Winning first place was the “Old Babes Seasoning,” a play on “Old Bay” Seasoning. The group of Urbanna women are repeat winners. A couple years ago, they used balloons to decorate as bath bubbles and sang “I’m gonna wash that COVID right out of my hair,” to the tune of the South Pacific song, “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair.”

In second place was the boat of Archie and Claudia Soucek and family cheering for the USA in the upcoming Olympics in Paris.

Third place went to Gary Taylor and “Uncle Sam” complete with a top hat festooned actor in striped pants standing on the boat top.

An honorable mention went to Scott Morano and passenger on a Jet Ski flying the Stars and Stripes.

Other entries include Tom Wagner, Tommy Daniels, Joseph and Victoria Sheridan, Jimmy Pickett, David Cottrell, Beth Middleton, Dan Snead, and Peyton and Ardyn Longest.
The judges, clad in red, white and blue judges robes, were Kelly House, Isaac Bosewell, and Richard Nye. They were selected as judges because they do not live in Middlesex.
The parade was led by Sidney and Janie Hastings, staff members of the Urbanna Town Marina. “I thank all who helped and went above and beyond their normal hours,” said marina manager Joyce Eanes.
